Welcome Message

Message from the Conference Chair

On behalf of the organizing committee, we look forward to welcoming you to the 103rd Canadian Chemistry Conference and Exhibition (CCCE 2020) in Winnipeg, the Gateway to the West from May 24-28, 2020.

The conference theme we have chosen is “A Meeting Place for Chemistry” to pay homage to our city’s historical role in the development of Canada. A short walk from the conference venue will bring you to “The Forks” which is the national historic site at the confluence of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers in downtown Winnipeg. This site has been a meeting place for people for over 6000 years from its first use by First Nations people, through the booming railroad days that saw Winnipeg grow to become a major hub, to its modern-day use as a market, home of museums including the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and a popular spot for concerts and other activities year-round.

With input from our colleagues from across the country, we are able to offer you a world-class scientific program spanning all areas chemistry and their intersections with other fields of critical importance to our future including quantum computing, health, and agriculture. We are pleased to announce that Professor Alán Aspuru-Guzik, Canada 150 Chair at the University of Toronto, has agreed to deliver the opening lecture entitled “The Materials for Tomorrow, Today”.

In addition to the technical program with over 70 symposia, we will host a number of special events, including:

  1. LGBTQ+ in STEM: a session devoted to all voices within Equity, Diversity and Inclusion conversations;
  2. Canada2067: a research symposium showcasing undergraduate students;
  3. Chemi-STEAM: a curated exhibition of your pictures that highlight chemistry’s artistic and aesthetic values;
  4. Others to be announced in the coming months.

We are grateful for the generous support from our sponsors whose contributions are central to the success of CCCE2020.  We look forward to strengthening existing connections and building new ones with you in Winnipeg in 2020. We hope that you will join us at our Meeting Place.
